Stress-Reducing Tips for Migraine Sufferers

Migraines are an extremely common neurological condition.  One in every four households across the United States includes someone who suffers from migraines.  For many of those people, a high level of stress can either bring on an attack or make one even worse.  Daily stress is impossible to eliminate entirely, but there are some habits and routines that lend themselves to bringing you a better sense of calm.

  • Eat better. Avoiding processed foods can eliminate many migraine triggers. If you know that you aresensitive to certain foods or beverages (like some types of cheeses or red wine), do your best to eliminate them from your diet.
  • Clean up your sleep routine.  Sticking to a regular schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day is important. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night.
  • Get moving. Exercise is one of the best ways to de-stress, aside from the other obvious health benefits.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic for Migraines

Upper cervical chiropractic care is a safe and effective means of getting to the root cause of many migraine cases.  When the atlas, the uppermost vertebra in the spine, misaligns, it can negatively affect blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid drainage from the brain.  Pressure may also be placed on the brainstem, which can also be a contributing factor in migraine episodes.

Atlas misalignments can happen as a result of an accident or injury, or even from repetitive movements that we make day in and day out.  In fact, many people develop migraines following a car or sports accident but don’t necessarily make the connection between the two.

Having your atlas checked and realigned if necessary can be the first step towards lasting migraine relief.  Upper cervical chiropractic adjustments are very gentle and precise, making them appropriate for migraine sufferers of any age. If you are seeking a solution for your migraines that is more than just a temporary fix, schedule your complimentary consultation with us to find out more about how upper cervical chiropractic can help.
